The federal investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia took a major turn Monday as authorities charged three people -- a former campaign chief, his associate and an ex-foreign policy adviser -- with crimes including money laundering, lying to the FBI and conspiracy. Paul Manafort, the campaign manager, and onetime business partner Rick Gates surrendered and later pleaded not guilty in Washington federal court. Separately, authorities disclosed that George Papadopoulos, the adviser, secretly pleaded guilty weeks ago and has been cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.   Read the full [...]

Washington (CNN)The case of a pregnant migrant teen held in Texas and blocked by the Trump administration from obtaining an abortion may be heading toward a point of no return. When the legal drama began last month, she was about 11 weeks pregnant. She is now at about 16 weeks, and her lawyers say her options for an abortion in Texas are dwindling. At the same time, the chances of a showdown among federal judges is increasing. The dispute, now at a Washington-based US appeals court and perhaps destined for the US Supreme Court, constitutes the first major abortion [...]

The two biggest moments of Tuesday's hearing about Russian propaganda on social media put Facebook in the crosshairs. "You put billions of data points together all the time. You can't put together rubles with a political ad?" asked Sen. Al Franken of Facebook General Counsel Colin Stretch during one of the hearing's most heated exchanges on Tuesday. The hearing also featured the general counsels of Google and Twitter, but they were mostly a sideshow to the haymakers thrown at Facebook. The social network was on the receiving end of the most pointed questions and the most heated exchanges. Two [...]

Washington (CNN)A federal grand jury in Washington on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment. The White House also had no comment, a senior administration official said Saturday morning. Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were [...]

Donald Trump came into office promising a restrictive new approach to immigration and there has been little question about his intention to follow through — with one seeming exception. Despite its enthusiastic rhetoric about the H-1B program, which provides temporary visas to high-skilled workers, the administration failed to make significant changes in time to impact the program’s annual lottery this April, leaving some who had anticipated action fuming. It has also declined to take up any of the legislative proposals for H-1B overhaul. But a crackdown has been in the works, albeit more quietly. Starting this summer, employers began noticing that [...]

Sometimes drugs can ruin lives, and sometimes they're simply a fun Friday night. It's a complicated subject, and we're not going to take a side. We will, however, point out that a lot of so-called anti-drug efforts which authorities have put together over the years have mostly been excuses to harass minorities. We're talking about how ... 5 White Employers Got Black Employees To Use Cocaine, Then Panicked About It Cocaine used to be just another food additive which could be found in everything from children's pain medication to pop. You'd think its 1914 ban would've come down to "Holy [...]

(CNN)Top White House aides, lawmakers, donors and political consultants are privately asking whether President Donald Trump realizes that losing the House next year could put his presidency in peril. Donors who trekked to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in support of House Speaker Paul Ryan were treated to a slide show late this summer to fundraise off those very fears, according to multiple attendees. Among the slides: An overview of the Democrats who would be tapped to lead key committees if the GOP loses control, including Rep. Elijah Cummings as the head of the House Oversight Committee. To some attendees, the [...]
